The Sign
The sign is a 3D representation of the hand drawn plough in metal, representing agriculture in the area. Underneath the village name could be a representation of a wagon wheel. A plaque on the post records that the sign was erected to commemorate the village postmaster, Ted Ayden (1897-1971). The sign is located at the junction of Benhall Green and Grays Lane off the B1121.

The Name and Population
The village was called Benehal(l)a in 1086. The name means "Nook of land where beans grow" from Old English and Anglian. The population was 521 at the 2011 census.
