Burstall

The Sign
The coat of arms belong to Henry Bolingbroke (Henry IV) and were used by Elizabeth I (lily flowers) and up until the Union. On the left is the Burstall clock tower, and on the right is St Mary's church. Below the crest is Burstall Village Hall, an exceptional Tudor style building constructed just over 100 years ago, with an endowment from Lillian Cranfield in memory of her husband who founded Cranfield Mills of Ipswich. The sign was made by Hector and Mary Moore from the Brandeston Forge in 1989. It is made of wrought iron.

The Name and Population
The village was called Burgestala or Burghestala in 1086. The name means "Site of a stronghold" originating from Anglian. The population was 198 at the 2011 census.
