Cookley

The Sign
The sign is dominated by the church of St Michael overlooking a ploughed field and the River Blyth which is to the south of the village. A barn owl sits on top of the sign. The sign was designed by Betsy Verall and made by Elvyn Pinkney. The sign is made of painted wrought iron.

The Name and Population
The population was 109 at the 2011 census. It was called Cokel(e)i in 1086. Its name means "Wood or clearing of a man called Cuca or of a cuckoo, from Old or Middle English.
