Foxhall

The Sign
The sign was erected for the Millennium in 2000 and is made of wrought iron inside a wooden frame. The main feature is the fox representing the village name. On the left is the Routh monument covered in ivy which still exists today in memory of Revd. George Routh. The rest of the sign is taken up by bracken and birch tree branches representing the heath and a ploughed field for agriculture.

The Name and Population
The population was 200 at the 2011 census. It was called Foxehola in the Domesday Book and Foxhole in 1254. The name means "The fox-hole or fox earth", from Old English.

The ruined church is dedicated to All Saints.
