Heveningham

The Sign
The sign is quite simple and depicts Heveningham Hall. It is located in the centre of the village. The original sign was just plain carved wood of similar design.

The Name and Population
Together with the parish of Ubbeston, the population was 223 at the 2011 census. In 2005, the population of Heveningham was 120. It was called Heueniggeham in 1086 and Heveningham in 1200.

The name means "The homestead of the family or followers of of a man called Hefin", from Old English.

Other Points of Interest
Heveningham Hall which is privately owned It was built in 1778 for Sir Gerard Vanneck (a Dutch Merchant) by the architect James Wyatt; After an extensive fire in 1984 the house was renovated and restored in 1994.

Bruce Reynolds, later the brains behind the Great Train Robbery of 1963, was evacuated to Heveningham during the Second World War.
