Huntingfield

The Sign
The sign was designed by David Gentleman and erected on the village green in 2005. The sign depicts the Queen's Oak above the name and a hare below. 

The Name and Population
It was called Huntingafelde in 1086 and Huntingefelde in 1180. The name means "The open land of the family or followers of a man called Hunta (the hunter or huntsman), from Old English. The population was 188 at the 2011 census.

Other Points of Interest
Queen Elizabeth I is said to have hunted deer here on a visit to Huntingfield Hall.

One of my favourite churches in Suffolk, St Mary the Virgin, purely for the ceiling decoration by "The Huntingfield Paintress", Mildred Holland, wife of the vicar, during the 19th century.
