Lawshall

The Sign
The sign is made of wrought iron in silhouette style. Above the village name are two monks either side of the Ramsey Abbey coat of arms and below the village name, the arms of the Drury family! flanked by a farmer and shepherd representing agriculture, prominent at the time.

The Name and Population
Lawshall parish includes quite a few settlements, including Ickworth, with a combined population at the 2011 census of 968. Called Lawessala in 1086. The name means "A dwelling or shelter by a hill or mound" from Old English.

The church is dedicated to All Saints.

Lawshall Hall was also a stop off point for Queen Elizabeth I during her Royal Progress tour in 1578. The hall is Grade I listed. Parts of Coldham Hall grounds are also in the parish.
