Letheringham

The Sign
The millstone sitting on a grass triangle represents an old water mill, quite simple!

The Name and Population
A small population of 160 which includes the parish of Hoo at the 2011 census. It was called Lederingaham or Letheringaham in 1086 and then Letheringham  in 1235. The name probably means "The homestead of the family of followers of a man called Leodhere", from Old English

Other Points of Interest
The church of St Mary is small, but was once part of a larger priory and now sits on the hill in a farmyard; a delightful church to visit. The priory was founded at the end of the 12th century.

As like a few locations in this area of Suffolk, Akenfield, a 1974 film was partly shot here.
