Levington

The Sign
The ship "HMS Shannon" is the main theme in the centre of the metal frame. It looks like it is made of copper! The sign commemorates the Queen's Silver Jubilee of 1977, but was not erected until 1979. It was unveiled by Mrs A.W.M. Watson.

The Name and Population
The village was called Leventona or Levetuna in the Domesday Book. The name comes from Old English meaning "Leofa's farm or settlement". The population at the 2011 census was 259, which included Stratton Hall.

Other Points of Interest
Levington Research Station, built by Fisons in 1957 remains as a fertiliser factory.

The church is dedicated to St Peter.

Levington marina is close by, the home of the Suffolk Yacht Club.
