Mendham

The Sign
The sign features a local lady, Charlotte Gray leading a white pony along the banks of the River Waveney, she was the subject of one of the paintings of Mendham's most famous son, Alfred Munnings. Charlotte Gray is buried in Mendham churchyard. The sign was made by Mary Moore at the Brandeston Forge and unveiled in 1978 by Munning's niece, Kathleen Hadingham to commemorate the centenary of Munning's birth

The Name and Population
The population was 451 at the 2011 census. It was called Men(d)ham / Menneham in 1086. The name comes from Old English meaning "Mynda's village or homestead".

The church is dedicated to All Saints

The village of Mendham came under Mendham Priory until the dissolution of the monasteries. Mendham Priory then became a private house.
