Moneweden

The Sign
The sign was unveiled on 1st January 1978 to commemorate the Queen's Silver Jubilee in 1977 as shown by the crown on top and the dates by the name, and made by Hector Moore of Brandeston Forge and designed by his wife Mary Moore. The locals got together to fund the project. The sign has two main themes including the church of St Mary and the wheatsheaf and cart wheel representing agriculture. The cart wheel is a  reminder that once a wheelwright, Joshua Shulver and others who may have followed him were outstanding and worthy of inclusion on the village sign.

The Name and Population
The population in 2011 was recorded as 120. It was called Munegadena or Mungedena in 1086 and Munegeden in 1194. The name probably means "The valley of the family or followers of a man called Munda" from Old English.
