The Sign
The sun represents the sunrise coast which isn’t far away and the sailing barge symbolises the River Waveney which separates the parish from Norfolk. The old North Cove sign was on the reverse of the Barnby sign. The new sign was erected in 2005.

The Name and Population
The name was Cove in 1204 and North Cove by 1285 from Old English-Cofa, which had many meanings, such as 'hut, shelter, den or just recess, hollow or cove'. It distinguishes itself from South Cove around five miles away. The population in 2011 was 449.
