Ringsfield

The Sign
The sign and base were made by Rory Sherriff and Barry Martin and erected in 1988. The sign is divided into three different sized rings. Th bottom, largest ring holds the village name, the middle ring depicts Hringa dressed for battle. The top ring could well be a robin taken from the 1949 nesting of the "Ringsfield Robins" in the church lectern. The robins have been immortalised as carvings in the new lectern and also the porch gates.

The Name and Population
The population was 323 at the 2011 census. The name means "Hring's open land, maybe as a circular feature", from Old English. It was called Ringesfelda/fella in 1086.

Other Points of Interest
