Sutton village sign

The Sutton Hoo sign outside the National Trust, property

The Sign
The village sign a golden stag on top probably relating to deer in Rendlesham Forest and the heath. The chain could be from an anchor representing the estuary and the North Sea, close by that the ships came up or the waymarked circular route around the parish. The main part of the sign is a shield split into three segments: The forest and a ploughed field in the top left, a bell from All Saints church; the tower collapsed in 1642 and not replaced, and at the bottom is the burial ship found at Sutton Hoo. The sign was erected to commemorate the Millennium in 2000.
