Thorpe Morieux
The Sign
The sign is triangular in shape containing the village name and the arms of Roger de Murious three times. The sign is located on a small green at a junction of three roads, Bury Road takes up two and the other is Chapel Hill. The church is just off this junction. On the post are what look like old pillory irons attached. The sign was made by village carpenter, Len Smith.
The Name and Population
The village had a population of 232 at the 2011 census. The village is located on the river Brett and has 14 listed buildings in the parish. Known as Torp in 1086. The name means " A secondary settlement held by Roger de Murious" in 1201, from Old Norse.
