The Sign
The sign includes a farmer ploughing his field in the old traditional style, horse drawn. A man is thatching a roof with what looks like a sheaf of thatching straw next to him. Typical rural Suffolk scenes of yesteryear.

The Name and Population
The village was called Willauesham from 1034-44. The meaning is "The homestead or village of a man called Wiglaf" from Old English. It has also been known as Wylavesham, Willavesham & Wylewesham. The population at the 2011 census was 362.

The church is dedicated to St Mary and has no tower.
