Winston

The Sign
The sign was designed and made by local engineer, Keith Bloomfield. The sign was unveiled in May of 2009. It is made of wrought iron. The sign includes depictions of St Andrew's church, also represented by the saltire on the top of the post. Below the church are depictions of a kiln representing the local brick making industry and a sheep representing agriculture. The grapes surround the sign which represent the village's old vineyard.

The Name and Population
Called Winestuna in 1086 and Wyneston, Wineston in the late 1200's. The name means "The farmstead or estate of a man called Wine", from Old English. The small population was 159 at the 2011 census.

Other Points of Interest
The local parish church called St Andrews was founded in around the 15th century. With extensions built during the 14th and 16th centuries, while being heavily restored during the 19th century, however it retains a lot of the original architecture.
