Wyverstone

The Sign
A typical countryside scene with a gamekeeper and his dog and a blacksmith/farrier shoeing a heavy horse, possibly a Suffolk Punch. At the top of the sign is an open book which could represent the Domesday Book, in turn this is topped with a cross, probably St George from the church. The sign was made by Brian Brookes, a local man.

The Name and Population
The population was 370 in 2005. It was called Wiverdestuna or Wieurthestuna in the Domesday Book. The name means "Wigferth's farm or settlement", from Old English.

Other Points of Interest
The church is dedicated to St George which has an interesting 16th century rood screen with carved figures, not painted as is normal.
