The Sign
The sign was erected to commemorate the Millennium as shown on the sign and funded by the Suffolk Acre Millennium Award Scheme, made from wrought iron. The sign shows the tower of St Nicholas church on the left, a solitary tree and then a Suffolk Punch horse on the right
The Name and Population
The village had a population of 324 at the 2011 census. Called Berdefelda in 1086. The name means "Be(a)da's open land" from Old English.
Other Points of Interest
The church of St Nicholas has an external Norman doorway and some nice internal rood screen saints.
