Bradfield St George
The Sign
St George himself is the main theme on the sign, which was made by the Gedding Hall Forge and erected to celebrate the Millennium. Also included are monks on the right probably from Bury St Edmunds, trees on the left representing local woodlands and a sheep representing the booming wool industry in the area.
The Name and Population
The name means "Broad open land", St George being added later, from Old English. The population was 420 at the 2011 census. It was called Bradfelda in the Domesday Book.
Other Points of Interest
The church is dedicated to St George.
The village was the setting for Adrian Bell's book Corduroy, published in 1930, though in the book Bell calls Bradfield "Benfield".
