The Sign
The sign includes the five bells from the church at the top surrounding the name. The main panel below includes a steam train which represents the local station which is still active and a wheatsheaf and plough for agriculture. The sign is located at a crossroads at the junctions of the A145, Station Road and Southwold Road.
The Name and Population
Brampton now includes Stoven in the parish since 1987 and had a population estimate of 460 in 2005. It was called Bramtuna or Brantuna in the Domeday Book. The name means "A broom farm or settlement", from Old English.
Other Points of Interest
The church is dedicated to St Peter and stands on a dangerous corner someway outside the village.
Brampton Hall is a listed country house built in 1794 of red brick for Rev Naunton Thomas Orgill Leman and the Leman family who had long associations in the area.
