A simple wrought iron sign bearing the village name and reason for its erection, 1977 the Silver Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II.

The population was 314 at the 2011 census. In 1086 the name was varied: Bram(m)eswella, Bromeswella, Brumesuella or Brumfella. The name could mean "Rising ground where broom grows or broom spring/stream".
