Depden
The Sign
The village sign has undergone a slight change since it was first erected including some extra detail, such as another badger, a couple of birds and small animals.
The sign today includes quite a mix of British Flora and Fauna including: A brace of pheasants, a couple of badgers emerging from their sett, a fox, a hare centre stage, a hedgehog and small mouse and a couple of birds including a wren and robin; the butterfly seems to have disappeared. The flora is just as varied including blackberries and rosehips and others. The church is in the background and is dedicated to St Mary the Virgin. An old style horse and cart is in front of the church. Alongside the name are depictions of Depden windmill on the left, which used to stand on the green and a notable former resident, Anthony Sparrow (1612-1685) a former bishop of Exeter and Norwich.
The original sign was erected in 1988
