Freckenham

The Sign
The sign has many historic features included on the sign with the Viking longship on the left in full sail with the now demolished castle to its top right. The church of St Andrew is on the right with a modern tractor working the fields below close to the Lee Brook. The new sign has included the saltire of St Andrew on top. In the centre is the seal of the Bishop of Rochester who held the lands here up until the 19th century.

The Name and Population
The population was 344 at the 2011 census. It was known as Frekeham in 895, Frakenaham in the Domesday Book and Frekenham in 1225. The name means "The homestead of the warrior or a man called Freca, from Old English.

Other Points of Interest
It is likely that a place of Christian worship has existed on the site of the present church since the third century, though no archaeological trace remains.
