The Sign
The original black wrought iron sign was erected in 1954 to celebrate the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II in 1953. The new sign was erected in 2002 to celebrate her Golden Jubilee. Both signs have the same theme of a man and his donkey on a pilgrimage from Bury St Edmunds to Dunwich, passing through the village.

The Name and Population
The population was 1,021 at the 2011 census. It was called Fessefelda  in 1086 and Frisingefeld in 1185. The name possibly means "The open land of the family of followers of a man called Frisa, from Old English.

Other Points of Interest
The church is dedicated to St Peter.

A Roman Road 15 miles (24 km) long, from Pulham St Mary to Peasenhall, passes through the parish of Fressingfield.
