Hitcham
The Sign
The sign was erected to celebrate the Queen's Silver Jubilee in 1977. The theme is that of agriculture, including the scythe, wheatsheaf and horseshoes.
The Name and Population
The parish had a population of 774 at the 2011 census. The parish includes the hamlets of Bird Street, Cook's Green and Cross Green; this also includes the parish of Wattisham in the census figures. Called He(t)cham in 1086 and Heccham in 1198. The name means "The homestead or enclosure with a hedge or hatch-gate", originating from Old English.

The church is dedicated to All Saints with some nice internal features, including the rood screen and a couple of Green Men in the roof beams.
