The Name and Population
The village was called Holebroc in 1086 and 1177. The name means "The hollow brook or brook in a hollow" from Old English. It had a population of 2,180 at the 2011 census.
Other Points of Interest
To the south of the village is the Royal Hospital School, which moved to this site in 1933 after having been housed at Greenwich Hospital since 1693.
The church is dedicated to All Sains.
