Holton

The Sign
The sign was erected in 2012 to celebrate the Queen's Diamond Jubilee and made by C.W. Ellis as a wood carving. In the sky above the church is a representation of a P-47 Thunderbolt, one of the type of aircraft which flew from RAF / USAAF Halesworth, which was more in Holton than Halesworth and is also represented by the Nissen hut on the left. St Peter’s church has a round tower, and the windmill (now in private hands) are still very much a part of the village. Between the two is a red deer.

The Name and Population
It was called Holetuna in 1086 and Holeton in 1254. The name means "The farmstead or estate in or near a hollow, or of a man called Hola", from Old English. The population was 832 at the 2011 census.
