Holywell Row
The Sign
The original sign was replaced in 2010 and made by Neil Horne at H Signs.
The old sign is split into four quadrants of a shield by a red cross with the name on, several shields and a couple of large American aircraft. The coats of arms are the same as those on the Mildenhall sign and are associated with the area, from top to bottom: West Suffolk, Bury Abbey, Warner Family, North Family, Hanmer Family & Bunbury Family . The quadrant depictions are as follows: Top left, Monk and the Holy Well; Top right, village school with two pupils in front; Bottom left, someone tending their garden; Bottom right, the local heath and woodland with a walker.
The new sign is also split into four segments, with the name shown horizontally in the middle. Top left depicts the old sign and an aircraft from the airbase; Top right, Holywell Methodist church; Bottom left, the Holy Well; Bottom right, a farmer cutting the crops in the old traditional way.
The Name and Population
The population was estimated at 570 in 2018. The name is related to a possible site of a 'Holy Well' or spring.
