The Sign
The sign was erected to commemorate the new Millennium in 2000 and made by Ironoak Forge in Buxhall. The sign depicts a horse harness decoration form a couple of Millennia ago from the Iron Age, which was found nearby.

The Name and Population
Called Nortuna/Nortune in 1086. The name means "North town or settlement" from Old English. A popular name in many English counties. The population was just over a 1,000 in 2011.

Other Points of Interest
Little Haugh Hall nearby was the home of Cox Macro (1686-1767), an Anglican priest and Antiquarian, who accumulated many antiquities at his home.
