Nowton

The Sign
The sign is double sided with the same theme on both sides. The spreading oak tree is representative of the trees in Nowton Park, but more significantly relates to the Oakes family who once owned the estate. A plaque on the sign states that it was presented to the village by Mr.P.C.Roe, who was a parish councillor from 1942 to 1993.

The Name and Population
The population was 163 in both 2005 and 2011. It was called  Newetune in 1946 and Neotuna  in 1086 and Nouton in 1254. The name means "The new farmstead or settlement" from Old English.
