Offton

The Sign
The sign has two main features, King Offa on the left which relates to the village name and Offton Castle on the right, built by William of Ambli in the 12th century during the reign of King Stephen.

The Name and Population
The population was 358 at the 2011 census. It was called Offetuna in the Domesday Book. The name means "Offa's farm or settlement", from Old English; whether this is King Offa is debatable.

Other Points of Interest
The church is dedicated to St Mary.

Offton Castle has been described as a probable Timber Castle, and also as a certain Fortified Manor House. A moat survives.
