The Sign
A simple but effective village sign showing blacksmith Howell at his anvil. The forge was just north of the church. The plaque states "Erected through public subscription by parishioners and in memory of George E. Clarke and Robert B Rolfe, 1985".

The Name and Population
The name possibly means "grove where poles are got", or 'grove by a ledge' or '*Palla's grove', from Old English. It was called Palegrava in 1086. The village sits on the River Waveney on the border with south Norfolk. It had a population of 905 in 2011.

Other Points of Interest
The church is dedicated to St Peter with a unusual square Norman font with faces on the corners.
