Preston St Mary

The Sign
This version of the sign was erected in 2012 replacing an older one, located on a small green outside the church. It commemorates the Queen's diamond jubilee. The sign shows the arms of the Reyce family, who were prominent in the village in the 16th-century. The shield, the colours are taken from local families shields found in the east windows of the church of St Mary. The three arrowheads are also to be found depicted in a stained glass window in the church.  The fruits are there to represent the land all around the village, that, in the past, was mainly orchards.
