The Sign
The village sign was made by John Carteret in 2000-2001 and was erected in 2002, dedicated to Dot Keeton; all information on the sign. The sign is split into four sections with the reverse image on the other side (except for family arms). The church of St Nicholas in the top left, a farmer ploughing the field, top right, the Rookwood family shield, bottom left, with connected families through marriage, and bottom right showing Guy Fawkes from the Gunpowder Plot, with the parliamentary guards on the reverse side. There is also a small rat/mouse in the bottom right corner.

The Name and Population
Called Stanfelda in 1086 and Stanefeld in 1197, meaning the “stony open land”, originated from Old English. The population was 211 in 1961 and 578 in 2011.

Other Points of Interest

The church of St Nicholas has Norman origins and possibly even earlier.
There are many Grade I and II listed buildings within the village including the church and Coldham Hall.
